Netflix Christmas Movies 2024

I love cheesy hallmark type Christmas movies so much and Netflix has really been getting into the game the past few years. Back in 2017 Netflix released A Christmas Prince and we decided to get together as a friend group to watch it, make fun of it, and drink gin to make it better, and the first annual Ginmas was born! We get together every year to watch one of the Netflix Christmas movies. This year they released four and I watched them all so you don’t have to. Though personally, I think you should watch them anyways.
Hot Frosty stars Hallmark queen Lacey Chabert along with Dustin Milligan (aka Ted from Schitt’s Creek). I knew it was going to be a good time when I watched the trailer and they made a Mean Girls reference. Widowed, down on her luck, Cathy (Lacey Chabert) receives a magic scarf, and when she puts it on a snowman, he comes to life (Dustin Milligan) and teaches her to love again. It was silly and completely unbelievable, but it was also a delight. I love Lacey and she’s at her cheesy Hallmark best in this movie. Dustin was just so charming, and it really made me want to rewatch Schitts Creek.
Meet Me Next Christmas was the movie I had heard the least about, but I did know it was about getting Pentatonix tickets, and as someone who has been desperately trying to get Taylor Swift tickets, that hits a little too close to home. Also people still know who Pentatonix are? Layla (Christina Milian) needs to get a ticket for the Pentatonix concert on Christmas Eve to reconnect with the man of her dreams. But when she teams up with Teddy (Devale Ellis), a concierge who is about to be fired, will her priorities change? This movie was even more unbelievable than Hot Frosty because every person in the movie was OBSESSED with Pentatonix. And don’t get me wrong, they have some good stuff but people were acting like this concert was the Eras tour. But it ended up being a really fun watch.
Our Little Secret was the movie we voted to watch at Ginmas, which is perfect because last year we watched the Lindsey Lohan one, and this one also stars her. *Updated to add, the Lindsey Lohan one was two years ago… we watched Best. Christmas. Ever. last year and it was so bad that I blocked it out. Anyways… I’m not an Ian Harding fan because I hated his character in Pretty Little Liars but I do love both Lindsey Lohan and Kristin Chenoweth. Avery (Lindsey Lohan) is spending Christmas with her boyfriend’s family, except is turns out her boyfriend’s sister’s boyfriend happens to be Avery’s ex (Ian Harding). Kristen Chenoweth played the boyfriend’s mother, and boy does Chenoweth play the bitchy mother well. Overall, it was actually a decent movie, even if the second hand embarrassment was strong in places. Also, we decided as a group that Ian Harding looks like Seth MacFarlane and I can’t unsee it now. I would also say this movie had a subtle Mean Girls reference as well, and a Lindsey Lohan and Tim Meadows reunion.
The Merry Gentleman is probably the one I was looking forward to the least. I’m not a huge Chad Michael Murray fan, and I just feel like I’m too gay for this movie. However, I do love Britt Robertson. I was also warned before this movie that it is so bad my friend turned it off. An aging broadway dancer gets fired from her job and goes home for Christmas, where she starts a male dancer show to save her parents club. Andrea and I watched it on our annual Sistermas tradition, and oh boy was it bad. Not just Christmas movie bad, but like bad-bad. Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray had no chemistry, their love story made no sense, and the plot was lacking. Honestly, it wasn’t even fun bad.
At the beginning I said you should watch them all, but I wrote that intro before actually watching them all, so I’m editing it to say: need some Christmas cheer, watch all of them except Merry Gentlemen.
