I’ve been working part-time and haven’t been exploring libraries as much, but I am planning on finishing the Vancouver ones at least.
Kerrisdale Branch
I was so tired and off the day I came here that I really didn’t have much to say. It was nice enough, but not my favourite branch.
Address: 2112 West 42nd Avenue
Accessibility: It wasn’t that hard to get to, just the train and the R4, but it is pretty far.
Hours: The hours are: Closed on Mondays, 9:30 am-7 pm Tuesdays, 9:30 am-6 pm Wednesdays, 9:30 am-7 pm Thursdays, 9:30 am-6 pm Fridays, and 9:30 am-5 pm Saturdays and Sundays.
Location and outdoors: It’s in the downstairs of the Kerrisdale Community Centre. Shockingly, there’s no outdoor space.
Space inside: It’s pretty small but cute. There are some tables, desks, and computers.
Meeting rooms: There are no meeting rooms in the library itself, but there are some event rooms upstairs in the community centre.
Facilities: Computers and the usual printing. There’s no bathroom in the library itself, but there is a bathroom and water bottle filling station upstairs in the community centre.
Events: Both children’s and adult events.
Terry Salman Branch
This is a really nice location, and the building is great. Like many others, it’s in a community centre.
Address: 4575 Clancy Loranger Way
Accessibility: It wasn’t too hard to get to. The train and then one bus.
Hours: The hours are 9:30 am-8 pm Monday to Friday and 9:30 am-5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Location and outdoors: It’s in the Hillcrest Community Centre. No outdoor space.
Space inside: Some tables, some computers, some chairs. Not a super big library, but very nice.
Meeting rooms: There is a meeting room for community purposes.
Facilities: No bathrooms inside the library, but there are bathrooms and a water fountain right outside, in the community centre. Phone charging stations. The usual printing.
Events: A good mix of events.
Oakridge Branch
Getting here was a bit of a nightmare because of all the construction in the area and the sidewalk being closed. It’s also really small.
Address: 6184 Ash Street
Accessibility: Not hard to get to transit-wise, it’s just the train and a bus, but the whole area is a nightmare.
Hours: The hours are 9:30 am-8 pm Monday, 9:30 am-6 pm Tuesday, 9:30 am-8 pm Wednesday and Thursday, 9:30 am-6 pm Friday, and 9:30 am-5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Location and outdoors: Another branch that’s in a community centre. This one is in Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture. No outdoor space.
Space inside: It’s so small that there’s only one table, a few computers, and a few seats in the kids' section. I feel bad about being camped out here all day and taking up space.
Meeting rooms: No meeting room.
Facilities: Washrooms, a water fountain, and the usual printing.
Events: Kids’ events.
