Advent Calendars: Part 2

January can be a pretty depressing month. The days are short, here in Vancouver it’s grey and rainy, Christmas is over… the list goes on. So a couple years ago, Angela had the idea that I should have advent calendars for Jan as well as December. So I picked up a cheap tea one, splurged on a Sephora one, and decided to get a cheap chocolate one (it’s so much fun to try to guess the shapes).

So I opened the tea one and it turns out it wasn’t even a calendar. It was just 24 bags of tea (2 bags of 12 types), so that was disappointing but I was still excited for the tea. It was the Bisou teas and some were really good, but on the whole they were pretty middling.

Then there’s the chocolate one. I waited too long to pick one up and couldn’t find a dollar store one. So I went to other stores to just get one of any kind. Nothing. I went to 5 stores and couldn’t find a single advent calendar. So we ordered a lindt one on Amazon, and after it was deleted twice, we gave up and canceled the order.

However, I did have the Sephora advent calendar that I got on sale way back in early November. It was so cute. All the little boxes had little hints on them and we would look at each hint and try to guess what was in the box before I opened it. They also had QR codes on each one that you could scan and it would take you to an Instagram post about the product.

I’m not going to post everything that was in it, cause honestly I’m still a little burnt out from my December blog posts, but because I love skin care so much, I’ll discuss my 5 favourite products.

On day 1 I got a mascara and I’ve really been enjoying it. It makes my lashes long and dark which is all I want. My only complaint about it is it takes a little while to dry so it smudges a bit sometimes (though the smudges come off really easily while it’s still wet).

On day 10 I got a little mini gua sha. I love gua shas so it’s nice to have a little one for travel. Not that my normal one is hard to pack, but I can’t turn down a mini product.

On day 15 I got a bright red cream lip stain. I’ve been hearing great things about the Sephora lip stains so i was excited to try it. I really love the colour. It goes on nice and smooth. My only complaint is after a couple hours it feels a little dry and that it wears off with food (I don’t mind reapplying though).

Day 21 I got coffee eye masks. I got eye masks on day 4 as well, but I liked these more. I don’t know if it made much of a difference, but they smelled so good, I couldn’t help loving them.

On day 23 I got little eye gems. I was the most excited about this one because I’ve never used eye gems before. I went to Mean Girls the musical when it was in Vancouver and dressed as Janis (movie musical Janis cause she wears fun makeup) and used them and it was just so much fun. They’re pretty easy to put on and they stayed on pretty well. They never fell off which was nice. Not something I’ll wear every day, but definitely fun for special occasions.

It was so nice getting 24 days of skincare and makeup and I was sad when it was over. I will probably buy a Sephora advent calendar again. I just know for next year to get my chocolate one sooner and double check that my tea one is actually an advent calendar.
